About us

“Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls”

Jeremiah 6:16

As a community, Ancient Streams recognizes the heart’s deep desire and longing for God—to belong to Him and to know that we are His. As a ministry, we seek to encourage and cultivate this singular devotion of the heart—to know God, to love Him, and be found in Him as we seek to serve Him in our lives. Together, we keep searching out this great love and how to respond to the God who created us, redeemed us, and abides in us.

Ancient Streams seeks to create opportunities for believers to meet with God, alone and in community, in order to deepen their relationships with God, experience transformation, and live out their callings in life. Following in the steps of Jesus and the “rich inheritance of saints” throughout Scripture and history, Ancient Streams seeks to encourage teachings and practices that strengthen our love of God, faith in Him, and walk with Him and others. There are many shared practices or spiritual disciplines, but particularly those of solitude, silence, meditation on scripture, prayer, retreat, and spiritual direction have created a structure for growth and maturing. These have solidified Ancient Streams into a community of companions who walk in the spirit of Jeremiah 6:16 where we find “rest for our souls.”

For over twenty years, Ancient Streams has been offering spiritual formation retreats and small groups to followers of Jesus Christ in Kelowna and the Okanagan region. Ancient Streams has grown over the years into offering a rhythm of retreats—Outdoor Fall retreat, Advent retreat, and a Spring weekend retreat along with monthly meetings to keep fostering a contemplative way of life. Small spiritual formation groups are offered, as well as one-on-one spiritual direction. Many have found these contexts to be a significant part of their continued growth into Christlikeness and maturity in the faith.

Ancient Streams has been strengthened and encouraged over the years by its association with Paul Martinson (St. Barnabas Learning Centre) and with Imago Dei Christian Communities (imagodeicommunity.ca). Both of these ministries have poured into Ancient Streams through retreat facilitation, partnership, and oversight.
